The Resilience Star Tools for Nature Nurture

The Resilience Star for Practitioners and the My Nature Nurture Growing Resilience Star are two
quick and easy assessment tools that you can use to measure the growth of resilience through a
programme of Nature Nurture.

A meaningful assessment of resilience should never rely only on adult interpretation. Children need
ways to reflect on their own experience, even when their language, confidence or self-awareness is
still developing.

The My Nature Nurture Growing Resilience Star can be used as a child-friendly conversation tool. It
allows children to reflect on the seven areas of resilience using simple language and a five-point
scale.

The Resilience Star can be used at the beginning of a programme, around the halfway point, and again at the end. Scores can be compared, but the numbers are only part of the story. The most valuable evidence often comes from the conversation around the star.

The Resilience Star for Practitioners Tool is for practitioners to measure children’s growth, evaluate
practice, and plan for opportunities and experiences in Nature Nurture sessions that will support
children’s growth. It will also help practitioners to evaluate the impact of a programme and report on
effectiveness of the intervention.
